How To Install Linux Mint 17 In Virtual Box

The prerequisites for this are a Linuxmint 17 iso and Virtual Box. I have selected to use Linuxmint 17 Cinnamon 32 bit iso.

Open Virtualbox and click ‘New’
1

Choose either Ubuntu 32-bit or Ubuntu 64-bit depending on which version you’re installing
2

Allow memory, more is better but make sure to leave enough enough on the host
3

If you do not have an existing virtual disk to use for Linuxmint then create a new drive
4

If not wanting to use this drive with other virtualization software then choose VDI
5

I usually choose dynamic so the vdi can be smaller however if you want better performance choose fixed
6

Select the size of the virtual drive
7

Click on settings
8

Under ‘General’, ‘Advanced’ tab I usually enable shared clipboard and drag and drop
9

Under ‘System’, ‘Processor’ tab select number of processors for the guest and enable pae/nx
10

Under ‘System’, ‘Acceleration’ tab enable Vt-x/AMD-V and nested paging if your cpu supports this.
11

Under ‘Display’, ‘Video’ tab allocate video memory and enable 3d accerlation
12

Under ‘Storage’ click on the ‘Empty’ controller , then click the ‘disc’ icon in the left, choose a virtual cd/dvd and browse for the Linumint iso
14

Close the Settings dialogue and start the virtual machine
15

Once the Linuxmint live media has booted, click on the ‘Install Linux Mint’ icon
17

Choose your language
18

Click continue
19

Choose the option the partitioning option you want
20

Select your timezone
21

Select your keyboard layout
22

Choose your username and password, whether or not to use encryption and whether you autologin
23

Copying files might take some time
24

Download language packs , you can skip this if you want
25

Installation has finished ‘Restart Now’
26

Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon successfully installed in Virtualbox
